Introducing SV Frankies

I've been frankening a lot lately, getting ready for the next SV collection.  In the meantime, I wanted to share some of my small-batch creations.  I'm calling them Frankies, and they will be available on the site Friday, January 9th at 1:00 p.m. PST   I'm starting with these 4 colors, and there will be plenty more to come in the near future.  I'll post swatches soon.

SV Snowflakies (NYE 2014)

I want to start a new tradition.  The trends of the year in one nail polish.  I feel like flakies and holographics were big this year, especially for indies.  So I created Snowflakies to represent both, and the name goes well with the Wintery theme.  I added my own touch of shimmer and sparkles.  These flakies are different than the ones that we are used to.  They don't shift to green, instead, they are an ethereal light blue.  They have a slight shift to pink, but you really have to look for the right angle.  I really didn't think too much of them at first, but then, they started growing on me.  Moreover, I realized that some flakies look better in pictures than in real life, and these seemed like the opposite to me.  I finally decided to make them a topper, and tweaked the formula so that it could be worn alone at three coats too.  New Year is in less than a week, so this is already available on the website here.

NailNation Peppermint Swizzle Stix is a complex pinky polish

I really like complex colors like this one.  It has holographic dust, some gold shimmer, and beautiful small pink/reddish glitters.  It's a really nice take on the shimmery reds that are traditional to this time of the year.

NailNation has had some really good sales lately, and I was stocking up on them, as I love this brand.  On the week that this arrive, I also got some Peppermint stencils as a gift with my Painted Polish order (from yesterday's post), and I thought they would make a perfect pair.  I've been running around lately, and have very little time for nail art, so accent nails are a life saver, and I can see myself getting into stencils like these, they work really well.

As a side note, Seche Vite really does "kill holos", or at least some of them.  I thought that my Fnug Psychedelicwas blinding even with topcoat, but the holographic effect completely disappeared on this one.  I've used Seche Vite before, on other types of holographics, but it didn't dull them this bad.  Oh well.

Happy Holidays!

Painted Polish Flake It Off is a dense multicolor flakies topper

Holiday shopping has prevented me from posting these last couple of days, among other things.  I don't think I'll be around this week too much either, because of so much that is going on.  The good thing is, that I will have 2 full weeks to relax at home and swatch until I run out of acetone.  Which will never happen, because I buy it by the gallon now *muah ha ha*

I was on Instagram a lot last month, due to the SV Launch, and I remember seeing so many great swatches.  One of them stuck, and it was this amazing flakies topper, mattified.  I was so thrilled when I managed to add one to my little cart, and it arrived in no time.  I have to mention that they did a wonderful job at packing this.  I love it when I order from an indie brand and I see the care and love that went into sending my order.

I like this one better than Picture Polish Festival (comparison below).  It is more packed with flakies and the formula was excellent.  The color shifts are a bit different, but they are almost dupes.  I see myself using this one a lot more, since I get more coverage with one coat.  I layered it over a soft lilac, but I think it looks better over darker colors.  I definitely want to try it matte next time.

Xmas sponge gradient

I try to avoid nail art that requires too much clean up.  This is one of the reasons why I don't do stamping, it's too messy for me.  Anyway, this weekend I decided to tough it up and try something different, something that I hadn't tried in years.  I wrapped my fingers with tape like they do in those tutorials, and it worked pretty well.  Except for the gold foil that stuck to the skin everywhere around the nails, after clean-up

Overall, I was happy with the result.  I used the Ulta Beauty wedges for applying make up.  They worked pretty well in my opinion.  I'll have to try it with cremes and report back, because I know those type of sponge-gradients are harder to achieve.  My point here, was trying to combine three different finishes in one gradient: Holographic, Foil, and Glitter.

1 coat NailNation 3000 Falling For You (tips only)

Chaos & Crocodiles Charmed (+) is a topper packed with duochrome flakies

If it wasn't for my friend Erin who is always in the know about Chaos and Crocodiles restocks, I probably wouldn't have found out about these flakies.  They had two options for this particular one, I chose the (+) with extra flakies, because I had the ILNP ones coming to me, and I had a feeling that they were going to be too sparse.  Sadly, I did order a dupe to this, I included a comparison below.  I still don't know how I feel about this new type of flakies.  At some angles they can look like I'm wearing dirt on my nails, or some kind of industrial shreds.  Magnetic Powder comes to mind.  At any rate, I'd have to give them some time to see if they'll grow on me.

F.U.N Pay Day Holo is a silver reflective lacquer

This nail polish has the most appropriate name to celebrate this Friday.  Pay Day is what I wanted GE Silver Sands to be.  I like that these are real silver, because they are not yellowish in the shade.  The formula was great, although I noticed that drying time was a bit much.  I had to use fast drying topcoat for this one/  I did 2 coats, but from up close, there were a few gaps.  This is gorgeous in real life, and it wears like iron.

Non-traditional colorful jelly trees

This was one of the easiest nail art manis I have done, in a long time,  I came up with this idea, when I saw these Incoco Nail Strips.  I was hoping I had a dark green jelly in my stash, but it turns out that I do not!  After I recovered from the shock, I browsed through my mini jelly collection and  decided to draw these colorful trees.  I used a smaill brush to make these triangles, but since jellies are really easy to work with, I think this can be done with a toothpick.  They look really nice in real life, because the holographic glitters seem like twinkling tree lights.
