Urban Outfitters Violet Aura

This is a nice matte lavender polish to have.  I am not a big fan of the formula from the matte UO polishes, but in this case, the color was worth the extra work.  Lately, they haven't really put out anything exciting, so I sort of just grabbed this, along with a neon polish, from the 2 for $8 bin.  The neon one turned out to be a re-purchase.  When I got home, I was like oops, I already have this, so I guess I'll try this matte instead.

cupcake nails

I am randomly posting old swatches here because I'm currently wearing and enjoying my mani.  I hadn't gotten my nails professionally done by anyone in over 8 years.  I posted those recently on IG.

Long story short, my computer broke, and I couldn't blog for a while.  Health issues also; I am getting a surgery at the beginning of next year, so that would be taken care of soon.  Then my camera broke.  Luckily,  I went to Samy's Camera, and they found the culprit.  They're awesome BTW, if you have them in your area, check it out.  Well, then the holidays came too so things got bit hectic.  Woo hoo!  I love the holidays <3

I did this using stencils over an Uber Chic mat.  I have to say, this was not as easy as those tutorials make it out to be.  I screwed up a couple of sets before I got it right.  I learned that you have to set the stencil, add a non-sheer (1-coater preferred) polish, and remove it fast, before it dries.  Working with different colors was a challenge, because you have to have all the bottles opened at some point.

Ok, then picking up the design after it dries and placing it on the nail can be tricky as well.  After it is set, it might have some rough edges that will show up over cremes (like a cheap sticker would), and are not easy to hide with the topcoat.  That is why I added flakes to this mani.  All in all, this has a learning curve.  I had to re-do one of my nails, because I tried to set the cupcake on the wet polish and is made a dent.  This sounds like common sense now that I'm typing it (haha) but the base color must be dry before adding the design.

Orange and Grey with Flower Accent

This is a good idea for a Thanksgiving mani.  The grey and orange say Fall, and the flowers look festive.  Thanksgiving manis are tricky to me.  I'm never sure what to draw.

Sephora Formula X Spectrum

This is a great red for Fall, and also for going into Winter., holidays, etc.  I am saddened that the liquid crystals (this collex) is being discontinued.  I just realized it now, because I was looking for the name of this polish (too lazy to go get the actual bottle, ha!).  Actually, most of the cool colors are at $5, and I doubt they are coming back.  I think the focus is on lips now.  The big stores are depleted of their polish items, while the lipsticks are everywhere and in every color range and finish.  I like the new 'lip stuff', but honestly, it is sort of frustrating for a polish junkie like me :/

Peeking black kitties

This is one of the manis that I have been cooking up for Halloween.  I started out with stencils on bare nails, and then it kind of took it's course.  I wore it for a couple of days and got many compliments on it.  This type of design makes the nails look longer.  I finally got a computer up and running and I learned how to crop the pics.  Now all I need is the time to blog more.

Purple French with Purple Cellophane

This is the type of cellophane that is used for shattered glass finish.  I figured I cut it thicker and do something different.  I had to add a bit of nail glue to the sides of each nail, because I could see this peeling within the hour.  It lasted a day, which is not bad, since this was not gel polish, and I only used 1 coat of topcoat to seal it.

Vapid Spellcaster

This is an interesting one.  A friend sent it to me, as it is a group exclusive.  It reminded me of CbL March to a Different Beat, but this one has a more prominent pink shimmer and green flash.  The formula was ok, but some of the flakies were sticking up.  This is pretty, but I think that Dollish Polish Toxic Avenger is superior.

New China Glaze Toppers

As promised last week, here are the swatches for the 2 toppers that I got at PHAMexpo.  Where I live, it has been cloudy for 2 solid months.  In fact, the first swatches are almost all in the shade.  That is why I have not been blogging regularly.  Lately, I have been in a blue mood because of this weather, and my manis below are proof of that.  Sadly, both of these blues are stainers, but the stains are temporary.

I think that both of these toppers are must have for purple lovers, as they both have sheer matte purple hexagons.  They are absolutely adorable, and I have not seen anything like it before.  They provide great glitter coverage with only 1 coat, even though the clear base is not gooey or thick.  My pictures don't do the justice.

Madam Glam Vivid Purple with Swarovski Crystals

These are huge for my nails.  Thankfully, when working with gels you can adjust and fill the gaps with topcoat.  Since my nails are curved, I had to do just that.  I did this for a special makeup event called PHAMexpo.  It was a lot of fun, and to my surprise, I found a lot of variety in the only nail polish booth that they had there.  It was China Glaze, and I will show you 2 magical toppers that I got next week.  The polishes were a steal, 8 for $20.

I should talk a bit about the polish.  This is my first Madam Glam.  My friend K has been telling me to try it.  I liked it, but since it is a jelly, it did shrink on me a little bit, even though I wrapped my tips, as I usually do with gels.  The color is vivid, as the name suggests, and the application was easy, although the brush is a bit big/wide for my taste.

Beige Gel Mani with Fuchsia Shattered Glass accent

As I mentioned yesterday, I have been experimenting with some nail art supplies that I purchased online.  This is the infamous fairy dust (which only works with gels, sadly) over a beige OPI creme.  The accent is just fuchsia cellophane with some butterfly stickers.  Tomorrow I will post the epic mani I did for PHAMexpo, using crystals.
